Consultation of a reproductive specialist

The task of a reproductive specialist is to help choose a rational path to the desired pregnancy, taking into account medical indications, efficiency and safety.

Pregnancy does not always occur after the first intercourse. Many factors affect the probability of getting pregnant. Some of them can be controlled by the couple themselves (for example, calculate the day of ovulation), other factors must be monitored with specialists (such as genetic obstacles to pregnancy). But there is a fairly universal rule, when a couple needs to consult a reproductive specialist: 12 months unprotected sexual life (without contraception) with a frequency of 3-4 times a week. This rule applies, if the woman's age does not exceed 35 years. With age, the supply of eggs decreases, and the number of genetic errors in eggs is increasing, so women, whose age exceeds 35 years, it is necessary to contact a reproductive specialist after 6 months of regular sexual life without contraception.

You should also visit a reproductive specialist, who is planning a pregnancy and wants to clarify the period of ovulation.

Time of visit:Mon, VT, SR, Thu, PT with 09:00 to 17:00; Sat with 09:00 to 16:00
Duration:from 40 minutes
Price:from 1400 UAH

goals

The patient's goal is to get clear answers about the reasons for not getting pregnant, state of reproductive health and possible ways of treatment, and together with the doctor choose a balanced and acceptable strategy for further actions.

The task of a reproductive specialist is to help patients understand the possible causes of pregnancy failure, explain medically sound treatment options and together determine next steps based on health status, expectations, security and financial opportunities.

Rules of preparation

We take matters seriously, with which our patients apply, and we strive not only to provide assistance, and to choose a justified way of treatment taking into account medical indications, expectations and capabilities of the patient. To make the initial consultation more meaningful and useful, not only the doctor's work is important, and patient preparation. That is why we have prepared list of studies, which will help the doctor better assess the situation already during the first visit.

If you are not able to complete all the studies from the list, first of all, it is desirable to have the results of two analyses, which help the reproductive specialist to obtain important initial information about the reproductive situation:

  • AMG (antimüllerian hormone)This indicator will help your doctor estimate your ovarian reserve (egg supply).
  • Spermogram partnerIt will help to assess the necessity and expediency of certain treatment technologies.

Also, if possible, it is advisable to sign up for an ultrasound of the pelvic organs, which can be performed during the initial consultation with a reproductive specialist. This will allow the doctor to assess the state of the pelvic organs and the number of antral follicles — one of the indicators of the ovarian reserve (the study should preferably be performed on the 7th–12th day of the menstrual cycle).

Components of the initial consultation

The consultation consists of three main parts:

  • 1. Collecting anamnesis and studying the results of laboratory and instrumental research. It depends on the volume and accuracy of information about the patient's current state of health, how detailed the reproductive specialist will be able to assess the possible causes of infertility and determine the next steps. For this, the reproductive specialist gets acquainted with the patient's medical history, available results of laboratory and instrumental research, clarifies information.
  • 2. Making a diagnosis. After taking an anamnesis and getting acquainted with the results of research, the doctor makes a preliminary or final diagnosis - depending on the available information. If necessary, the doctor will offer to do additional tests or undergo an examination by a narrow specialist (for example, endocrinologist or therapist). This will help clarify the diagnosis and determine reasonable treatment tactics.
  • 3. Selection of the most effective treatment tacticsAccording to modern medical protocols and the patient's clinical situation, the reproductive specialist offers possible treatment options with an explanation of the advantages, limitations and features of each approach. The doctor also advises on the expected stages and duration of treatment, explains the factors, which can affect the prognosis, and helps the patient better understand the next steps. During the consultation, you will receive the necessary safety information, possible risks, expectations from treatment and will be able to ask the doctor important questions for you.

After the initial consultation, the senior administrator of the medical center will advise you on the organizational and financial side of the treatment, proposed by a reproductive specialist. During this conversation, you will be able to clarify the phasing of the program, possible payment options, deadlines, preparatory steps and practical questions, that may influence your decision. This will help you understand better, how the proposed treatment plan can be implemented in your particular situation, and make a more informed decision about what to do next.

Frequently asked questions to a reproductive specialist

A gynecologist can also treat infertility?

So, if the reason for not getting pregnant is related to certain gynecological diseases or women's health disorders. But a reproductive specialist specializes in reproductive issues and assesses the situation more broadly: takes into account female and male infertility factors, examination results, fertilization process and possible treatment methods. In other words, gynecologist helps to work with women's health, and a reproductive specialist helps to determine, what exactly can prevent pregnancy, and suggest next steps.

I cannot determine the day of ovulation. what to do?

You can determine the day of ovulation with the help of pharmacy ovulation tests. Such tests can be useful, but do not always provide enough information for a medical evaluation of ovulation. In addition, even with a regular menstrual cycle, up to three cycles without ovulation can occur during the year - but not in a row. One of the most informative methods of evaluating ovulation is folliculometry — a short ultrasound of the pelvic organs, during which the reproductive specialist evaluates the growth and development of the follicles in the ovaries. This helps to pinpoint the period of ovulation and determine the optimal time for conception or further medical steps.

Can I invite my husband to visit a reproductive specialist??

Of course. Conceiving a baby is always a decision and responsibility of two. Therefore, we strongly advise both future parents to come for a visit. This will allow you to comfortably make an informed joint decision about the further treatment plan.

Does it make sense to come for a consultation?, if I do not have the results of laboratory and instrumental studies?

So, consultation makes sense even without previous results. A reproductive specialist will be able to listen to your story, specify important details, evaluate possible reasons for non-pregnancy and explain, which examinations should be started in your particular situation.

Simultaneously, if possible, it is desirable to have the results of two priority studies: AMH and spermograms of the partner. They will help the doctor get important initial information about the ovarian reserve and the male factor, and also better guide you regarding further examinations or possible treatment options.
